7.11.2011 Update

This summer has been sluggish.  Family stuff   -_-  haha.  If you follow me on twitter then you’ve already seen the concept art for the other freeze gun.  The metal rods spread when it’s ready to be used.  As you know, Doom X takes everything great from the Doom/Quake/Hexen universe and this gun is similar to the nail gun from Quake 1.  Below that is the attacks from the Death Dealer.  Death Dealer is a little lower tier enemy than the Angel of Death.  They can be very deadly though but not as annoying as the Angel of Death.  There was a flying enemy I worked on in the past that has been totally redone.  I’ve stuck a concept art of him in one of my videos but he looks totally different now.  I might use the old concept as a boss in the distant future.

6.1.2011 Update

So I’m sure you guys have seen the video above showing off some goodies. One thing I’d like to point out is the new freeze gun. This weapon works wonders whenever I open up a door and monsters spill in. Did you notice the freeze death animation? I think it’s the coolest thing ever and it took me awhile to perfect it. With some help from the ZDOOM community I was able to pull off exactly what I wanted. Again my main focus at the time is the maps and I will get back to new monsters! I have a few drawn out, they just haven’t had the sprite treatment yet.
I remember about a year ago I got an e-mail from a guy who claimed to be very talented at decorate. I can’t remember your name or e-mail but contact me again. I’d like to make a Doom X version of cherubs but I’m not that good at decorate to do the coding. If you send me a fully functional one with dummy sprites, I’m down!
I know some of you are impatient but there has been lots of progression, especially with the weapons. At first I said I wasn’t going to add lots of weapons but I’ve changed my mind. The other weapon that I have dummy sprites for is another freeze type weapon that’s real sweet! For your patience I have a gift below. Have fun!

I’m working on a new trailer.  I know lots of you guys have been asking for some new guns which is what my main focus is at the moment.  I’ve made some real bad ass blood splatter effects certain monsters.  These splatter effects will only be on the new monsters since I want to stay true to the older monsters.  I have been trying to create a blood splatter effect after a frozen enemy is broken but I have ran into some issues with that.  So for now they just break like they do in Hexen.  That’s all I will say for now so I’ll just let the screen shots below tell the rest.  Also the pic with the spiders and imps is my favorite by far.  Real fun level and holy crap some of the levels you will encounter have a sh** load of scripts.  The demon with the pink eyes is not a new monster too.  Hmmm…?

Again  I’m so glad the issues have been solved with my computer.  Feels good to be doing this again :).  Next up is adding wings to the Succubus.

Ok I resolved the issue of my computer restarting. Turns out that my power supply was old so I bought a bad ass one and I’ve had ZERO problems and DOOM X is back in high gear! I’ve missed playing GZDoom X and now that I fixed everything, I’ve been applying lots of color lighting effects and it looks great! I am also trying to rap up the 1st half of Doom X as fast as I can. I’ve been slammed again at work! Here are some screen shots of what you’ll see in the first half.

My favorite level so far is level 4 which is built from scratch as of the other levels in Doom X are uncompleted wads my brother and I created ages ago but they are still cool! Level 4 has a ton of trites, elite imps, succubus and dark vixens galore! All the goodies of Doom X will be in this level.

I’m sure you guys notice some new splatter animation coming from the trites.  Lots of new splatter animation has been created for future monsters and cool gib effects.

The other levels have been redone and are all sexied up! Here are some screen shots of the madness!

No Doom X is not being released but I am letting you guys get your feet VERY wet with this goodie.


Lets just say that when you load this wad with ZDOOM for Doom 2 that a particular monster, that has hooves and has an identical brother but weaker, will be replaced by someone very special.  You’ve all seen videos of this character and he seems to be very fucking popular.  In celebration of his popularity, I’ve been adding some spice to his sprites.  So now you guys get to finally play with my creation which is the BETA version of him.  Have fun!

If you have no clue what to do just go to www.zdoom.org, downlaod ZDOOM and copy it into your DOOM 2 directory.  Also save the WAD file above into your directory and when you run ZDOOM.EXE, use this command “zdoom.exe -file wadfilename.wad”.  Then you can go hunt down this mysterious creature. Happy hunting and feel free to make some YOUTUBE videos and e-mail them to me.

Sort of good news!  I updated the new GZDoom and did a test run on DOOM X with OpenGL and I had no crashes!  Why do I say this is “Sort of good news”, because this has kind of happened before where it worked fine and then BAM goes all to hell and starts crashing again.  But I am keeping my hopes up and I’ll be honest, it was VERY frustrating having this OpenGL issue with Windows 7.  I’m no computer dummy but I have to say I was not prepared for Windows 7 driver issues.  I always manually did it myself on XP and never had a problem.

So anyways you can see how this situation I had was a major cock block on everything.  Imagine your PC restarting every time and you gotta start all over again.  So anyways this is awesome for now, I did a little test recording which I am uploading right now.  SORRY if the quality looks like shit but hey I avoided using Fraps incase of a crash.

Some updates on the monsters –

Trite Mothers spawn three Trites when killed and have a move where spikes spawn underneath you.  The animation of it’s death sequence has not been complete so as of now it’s just the trite death animation.  I did some test runs and I may have to nerf the damage on the spikes because it fucks me up bad.

Succubus/Dark Vixen have new death animation with blood added and have a very small chance to revive.  Also people asked for a charm ability and there is kind of one.  If they kill another monster it basically becomes their bitch but nearly twice as strong.  It’s pretty sweet but it will make you think twice whenever you let rapid fire Dark Vixen kill everything in the room.  When an enemy is charmed they turn black and white with purple eyes and they shoot pink stuff also.

Tank Boss no longer has tank legs.  I decided it looked strange whenever he would do a complete turn around with his tank legs which is impossible so now he hovers.

The 1st half is proceeding!  Lots has been done!


I just found out the video I recorded was upside down…:P
